There no place like Home for the Holidays

The holiday time is about people going home to visit their relatives. It's weird to think that this year we are the one who are going home rather then having people come home to us. It also makes it more exciting. In a way though it's weird not being home in time to help put up Christmas lights and decorate the tree.
It's nice to see how people are getting into the holiday spirit here. Many people in my hall have put up lights and decorations in their room. When I went up to town the other nite it was so nice to see all of Main street lit up in white lights. Although I'm missing out on getting ready for Christmas at home there are still many ways to get into the holiday spirit at college.

The Most Busy Time of the Year

The Holiday season is definitely the most hectic time of the year. All of a sudden it seems like all of my teachers are throwing all this work at us and we have finals to top it all off. It is definitely going to be a crazy week. I havn't even began Christmas shopping yet! I probably wont begin that until I go home. I wanted to buy something for some of my friends here but I don't see when I'm going to have the time to do all this.

Paper 6

So at first I thought paper 6 should be really easy, I mean you already wrote most of the information, you simply have to revise it. Well it turns out to be not as easy as I thought. It's actually really hard to go back to something that you already completed and make changes. Any obvious problems with the paper were most likely fixed before it was handed in the first time.
The revision page has also been a challenge because normally you see something you don't like and you just change it. Now we're being asked to say why their was the need for a change.

Secret Santa

I think the class scret santa thing is a real great idea. Its just another way to get into the holiday spirit. It doesnt matter how much you spend its just the thought that counts. I have always done secret santa's with my family and friends. This way you only have to concentrate on buying a present for one person.

Today is Halloween. Halloween, like Christmas has become a vey comercial holiday. Stores stock up on costumes a couple months in advance. Giant bags of candly line shelves. There are even so many decorations to be bought. Some houses get more carried away with decorating their house's for Halloween then they do with Christmas Lights.

Christmas Gifts

Christmas has always been the one time of the year when even the most frugal people go out and by expensive gifts for the ones they love. Many people are concerned that Christmas has turned into a materialistic holiday when people go out and buy all the new trends; the newest video game system, designer clothes and the most popular toys for their chilldren. People are concerned that gifts no longer come from the heart. I personally think that it is ok to get carried away with spending at Christmas time. I do however think that gifts should be personal and that you should not just give a gift certificuit. But I dont think that a personal gift has to be hand made, I mean sure if your great at beinng crafty and you know that the person who your buying for will like what you make then that is an awsome idea. But sometimes something store bought could be just as personal. For example if you know that your friend loves listening to a certain band and you buy them their newest cd that could be a very thoughtful gift for that particular person. I also think it is fine to spend more at Christmas time because gifts often make the giver just as happy as the reciever.

Christmas in October

Last week I went to the mall with a bunch of my friends. As we were walking around J C Penny we noticed that there was a whole section of the store already decorated for Christmas. I always thought that any time before Thanksgiving is too early to get ready for Christmas, but before Halloween, thats just crazy.
Also every year my family picks secret santa names sometimes in the late fall. I found out from my cousin the other day that they already picked the names. I couldn't believe it. When I asked why she said that this way we would have more time to search for gifts. How much time can you possibly need? Christmas seems to be starting earliar and earliar each year. I don't like when its stretched out too long because then it takes away from the actual Christmas season and becomes more of a comercial holiday then it already is. Pretty soon it seems like people will just be leaving their Christmas decorations up year round.
